Frequently Asked Questions
+ What does Wired Consulting do?
Wired Consulting helps neurodiverse people successfully connect the learning wires. We work with individual learners, groups of learners, educators, whānau and anyone who needs regular tracking assistance to stay on task and meet their goals. Our model is practical, strengths-based, and holistic.
See our What we do page.
+ Who do you help? Are you the right match for me?
See our Who we help page.
+ What makes the Wired Consulting unique? How does it differ from subject tutoring?
We start with an understanding of your neurodiversity and build on it. We figure out your thinking and learning processes at the first session and adjust our teaching to match. For example, some people prefer structured discussion with clear signposting, whereas others like looser, more creative approaches. Either way, we find techniques to make it work. If you don’t like talking and/or find communicating difficult, we help with prompts, ranking, and direct questions. If you like talking, we help you filter the information, either visually or verbally, and create order from the chaos. After the session, the Wired Consultant sends you structured follow-up notes to help you remember what was agreed on.
+ What happens before the consultation?
To make the most of our time together, we learn as much as possible about you before the first meeting. We chat first over the phone or by email, and we ask you to submit an on-line background questionnaire. We also encourage you to share any relevant diagnostic information (if it’s available) with us, including your academic record (if you have one). We will also encourage you to look through this page so that you know what to expect.
+ What happens during the consultation?
Learn about our sessions at What we do. This downloadable service delivery model explains things visually. Bring along a support person if it makes you feel more comfortable but please let us know they are coming.
+ What is expected of me during the consultation?
- Bring along scheduling tools if you use them (such as a phone, diary or laptop).
- Remember your passwords so that we can easily access your content management systems, such as school or university intranet.
- Turn up on time and, if you cannot attend, contact us as soon as possible. See our cancellation policy on the How much.
- Engage actively, be honest and open, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to disagree!
- Take responsibility for the agreed tasks.
Please be mindful that we are hopeful you will achieve your goals, but we do not expect this of you. If things have not gone to plan, we simply review and try another approach. You are meeting our expectations by simply turning up to the consultation.
+ What is expected of me after the consultation?
- Read through the notes.
- Work on the actions.
- Jot down any questions and/or things you want to work on or develop.
+ How often do we meet?
The number of sessions depends on your level of need. We may meet only once or twice, or we may have fortnightly sessions. It’s up to you.
+ What if I forget a session?
If you forget a session, please contact us immediately. We will not charge for the first missed session, but we have a tiered charging process for future missed sessions. See the terms and conditions in our How much page.
+ What happens with my personal information?
Any information shared with us is viewed as private and confidential. We will not disclose any information without your consent. However, if you say or share information that, in the professional opinion of the Wired Consultant, puts you and/or others at risk, we have a duty to pass on our concerns to an appropriate support service.
+ Why are the consultation notes so important?
The consultation notes provide a record of what was agreed on during the session and include goals, recommendations, and tasks for the weeks ahead. As ‘working’ documents, they are integral to your learning journey. They can be linear and/or visual, depending on the tasks and your preferences.
+ When will I receive the consultation notes?
You will normally receive the consultation notes within a working day. If additional input is required, such as adaptation of resource materials, it may take a little longer. The screening report will take around a week to return.
+ Can I share my consultation notes?
Your notes are emailed to you directly, and we will only share them if we have your written consent. Feel free to forward your own notes to your support people but please do not circulate them in the public domain. Let us know if you would like us to supply additional abridged and/or differentiated notes; we are happy to do so but please be advised that this will be at extra cost to you due to the time taken to prepare the notes.
+ Can I share your resources?
The additional resources and materials shared with you by Wired Consulting are the intellectual property of the business. You can share the information with your support people, but not in the public domain.
+ Will you proof-read my work?
Due to academic integrity requirements, the Wired Consultant will not proof-read your work. Rather, we teach proof-reading skills and advise on areas of writing that need improvement, such as: structure, surface features (such as grammar and spelling), clarity, and overall flow. We also recommend assistive technology to improve written expression and proof-reading accuracy.
+ Do you recommend special assessment conditions?
We do not make formal recommendations for special assessment conditions (for secondary or tertiary institutions), but we steer you in the right direction to receive this support. To aid your discussion with the learning assessor and institutional learning support services, we provide advice on conditions which we think will work best for you. We also explain university processes to ensure you get the conditions when you need them.
+ Do you provide any other academic supports?
If you are known to Wired Consulting, that is; we have sufficient knowledge of your neurodiversity and are fully aware of your current learning circumstances (including learning and personal obstacles), you may be eligible to a range of additional academic support services. This includes support letters for Limited Full Time Study, Late Deletion, and degree extensions (should we deem your circumstances justified).
+ Can you tell me more about group consultations?
Please contact the Wired Consultant directly about this.
+ How much is it?
See our How much page.
+ Is there any financial support available to me?
Financial support to cover several sessions may be available. Please contact the Wired Consultant directly.
+ How do I pay you?

It will ask you to pay the sum into their account by way of credit card (with a direct link and small service fee) or bank transfer. We accept payment session by session or monthly. Please indicate your preference when you meet with the Wired Consultant.
